On behalf of everyone at Omgeo, I am pleased to announce that we’ve embarked on an exciting path to set a new standard in derivatives portfolio reconciliation and collateral management. You may have seen that we recently acquired Allustra and a software license from Global Electronic Markets (GEM). By combining GEM’s portfolio reconciliation capabilities with Allustra’s collateral management service, Omgeo brings a unique offering to the financial services industry that allows us to extend our back office capabilities, while enabling our client community to more effectively manage operational risk within their firms. Solution Updates
Omgeo Central Trade ManagerSM (Omgeo CTM) Broker XML & FIX 4.4: Deployed to Production
Omgeo is pleased to introduce the first phase of Omgeo CTM for broker/dealers, providing XML and FIX 4.4 connectivity for the sell-side. The Omgeo CTM broker/dealer solution provides one common platform where buy-side and sell-side participants can interact in both domestic and cross-border markets. This is the first step in realizing our vision of providing broker/dealers access to the central matching capabilities and overall efficiencies of Omgeo CTM. Omgeo TradeSuiteSM: Confirm Disclosure Service
The Omgeo TradeSuite Confirm Disclosure Service is an optional new component available in TradeSuite 7.1, currently in production. The service will provide an electronic alternative to cumbersome paper disclosures by enriching electronic confirms with a link to an online repository where broker/dealers can store disclosure information. Omgeo was granted a “No Action Letter” by the SEC essentially stating that, from a 10b-10 compliance standpoint, access to disclosures equals delivery and use of the Confirm Disclosure Service would not result in enforcement action. Marianne Brown: The regulators need you…
 
This blog by Marianne Brown addresses the burning issue around regulation and how far-reaching it should be. She argues that regulation should go far enough to protect investors and correct any misalignments in the industry but it mustn’t inhibit a firm’s ability to participate in the global marketplace. She adds that the most effective way of devising rules for the capital markets is for the industry to work in partnership with the regulators to establish a robust framework.

Tim Lind: Hedge funds are not the root of all evil
Tim Lind’s blog asserts that it is wrong that hedge funds are put in the line of fire for the recent unraveling of the financial markets. The write-down of sub-prime assets and credit portfolios is a result of failed valuation, failed ratings models, excess leverage, and poor business practice on the part of investment and commercial banks. He adds that liquidity is the lifeblood of our industry and the root of all evil is not hedge funds but a marketplace that lacks liquidity.
